Comprehensive Eye Examinations

Good eye health is an important part of overall good health.  A comprehensive eye examination is needed for more than just complaints of blurry vision.  The exam is simple and comfortable, and regular eye care is essential for a lifetime of good vision.

As with any doctor visit, the initial consultation will require a family history and a past medical history, including all medications you are taking.  All this information is needed to determine if any specific eye problems need to be assessed.  For example, patients with diabetes need regular exams with the eyes dilated to make sure that there is no bleeding in the back of the eye.

Increased screen time is also a concern for children as well as adults.  Blue lights from electronics can cause changes in the eyes that need to be monitored.  Blue light blocker glasses are available for eye protection.

Good vision is vital for children for learning and good performance in school and sports.  Annual eye exams should begin in childhood.  It is important for children to be monitored for myopia (nearsightedness), as this is becoming a bigger problem in children and at earlier ages.

In some cases, a regular eye examination has led to the diagnosis of other serious health conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, and even cancer.  These patients may not even be aware of any symptoms and only find out they have the condition because their eye doctor told them to see their primary care physician for an assessment.
